About Staff + Sword

Why Staff + Sword?

Many Christian men feel isolated—even while surrounded by people.

Church can feel rushed. Friendships can stay shallow. And spiritual battles are often fought in silence.

Staff + Sword was created to change that.

We believe men grow best when they:

  • Remember they are not alone in the fight
  • Walk closely with other believers
  • Speak honestly about faith and struggle
  • Pray for one another consistently
The Meaning Behind the Name

The Staff represents guidance, care, and shepherding—men supporting and lifting one another up.

The Sword represents truth, readiness, and spiritual defense—standing firm in God’s Word.

Together, they reflect a balanced calling: strength with compassion, courage with humility.

Billy Joe

I’ve always longed for deep connection, not surface-level friendships or faith that stays polite and distant. Scripture paints a picture of brotherhood that is honest, loyal, and covenant-driven, and the friendship between David and Jonathan has always stood out to me as a model for how men were meant to walk together.
For the past ten years, I’ve worked in the behavioral health field, walking with people through some of their hardest moments. That experience has shaped my belief that healing, growth, and spiritual strength happen best in safe, genuine relationships where men can be fully known without fear or pretense.
I’m married and the father of four kids– roles that continually teach me humility, patience, and what it means to lead with love. Over the years, I’ve served in ministry as a youth pastor, on worship teams, and in church leadership. Those seasons have reinforced a simple truth for me: faith is not meant to be lived in isolation.
This site exists to encourage real brotherhood among Christian men. A place where strength includes vulnerability, where faith includes honesty, and where no one has to walk alone. My hope is that what you find here helps you build the kind of connections that sharpen your faith and anchor you through every season of life.
